Gong Xi Fa Chai!

Published January 26, 2009 by isisimaginings
Or, if you speak Mandarin, Xin Nian Kuai Le! In other words, Happy Chinese New Year of the Ox! I hope I have both greetings correct, I’m never sure with online translators. Apparently, people born in the year of the ox are said to be loyal & patient, with a strong work ethic & excellent leadership qualities. Famous people born in the year of the ox include actors Meryl Streep & Dustin Hoffman AND President Barack Obama! I don’t know about them, but I’d say he fits the bill perfectly!

I did intend making an oriental card today to mark the occasion, but after staring at my stash for an hour I gave up. I still have a cold, as well as a horrible cough, which means I’m not sleeping too well, so my mojo has gone on holiday! Never mind, I’ll have a go tomorrow.
I made this card last week for a DC, I’m sure she must have it by now & I doubt she looks at my blog anyway. The starting point for this card was the label, which was a free download from Mel, thank you Mel! I printed it out on the back of the Papermania paper & cut it out, then matted & layered it with papers from my stash. The backing paper is Laura Ashley, the flowers are Prima, the circular label is Papermania & the ribbons are from Crafty Ribbons.
The cute little birds are part of a set of lovely clear stamps that is FREE with the February issue of ‘Cardmaking & Papercraft’ magazine. I don’t buy many crafting magazines, but I had to have this one, because the stamps really are lovely. I stamped the birds onto watercolour paper with a Versafine inkpad (Black Onyx), coloured them with Whispers pens, attached them to the card with foam pads & then used ‘Anita’s 3D Gloss’ to give them a shine. I wasn’t sure about this card as I was putting it together, but now I think it works.
That’s it for today. To everyone who is visiting my blog, I hope you’ve had a good Monday & thank you for taking the time to visit.
Love & light.

A Quiet Sunday

Published January 25, 2009 by isisimaginings
It has been raining since last night & I have stayed in all day, thus depriving the street of my amazing ‘Singing in the Rain’ routine! 🙂 Instead, I read, ‘Revelation’ by CJ Sansom, HIGHLY recommended, caught up with some blogs & watched episodes of ‘How London Was Built’ on the history channel. Fascinating stuff.
First up is this amazing blog candy, (Hanglar Stamps!!), offered by Marlene to celebrate over 230,000 hits on her blog. She will do the drawing on January 30. Her work is really stunning, so have a look.

This is another card I made earlier this week. It went to the daughter of a DC. I was late making it, but luckily she got in time for her birthday. As you can see, it’s a very simple card, with some matting & layering & some embellishments.

I have decided to offer these two awards to whoever visits my blog. I have spent ages looking at so many blogs & they all seem to have these awards already, so help yourselves! 🙂

I hope everyone has had a nice weekend. Love & light.

Happy Saturday……….

Published January 24, 2009 by isisimaginings

To everyone. Hope you have had a good week. I purposefully stayed away from the computer the last few days, because I had some important cards to make & I didn’t want to be distracted – it is astonishing how quickly time goes by when you’re checking out all the beautiful crafting blogs & websites. I made four cards this week & I will post them over the next few days.

This one is for a docrafter who is going through a heartbreaking time at the moment. Those of us who miss her on the forum wanted to let her know we are thinking of her. I used Clare Curd’s docrafts’ sketch for this week – hope you can see the layout. The backing paper is from Dovecraft’s Laura Ashley Contemporary range. The daffodil stamp is from Papermania’s new set of unmounted stamps for Marie Curie Cancer Care – £2 of the £4.99 price goes to Marie Curie. I stamped the image four times with a Versafine Black Onyx ink pad, coloured each one with Whispers pens, cut out three of the flowers & layered them using foam pads. I wanted to heat emboss the image because I had bought lots of embossing powders for virtually nothing in one of the January sales on a crafting website – can’t remember which one. But guess which one I DON’T have? That’s right, I have no CLEAR embossing powder – grrrrr!! 🙂 So I used a clear lacquer instead on the image & now I have to buy more embossing powder. The ribbons are from Crafty Ribbons & everything else – flowers, pearly adhesive gems & sentiment – are from my stash. Hopefully, she will like it.

Tara at Happily Ever Crafting is giving away this gorgeous blog candy to celebrate 10,000 hits!! All she asks is that you follow her blog & tell her your favourite song. She will draw a winner on January 31.

I’m going to finish by saying how much Rica’s comment on my Tilda Challenge cards made me laugh. Honey, if you think your trail of debris is bad, you should see my front room – it looks like a tornado made a pitstop!! 🙂

Love & light.

Blog Candy!

Published January 20, 2009 by isisimaginings

No cards today, but I wanted to tell you about this gorgeous blog candy. Mina at Pinkpuds has very kindly decided to give this away to celebrate her birthday & getting 5000 hits on her blog. As you can see, there are some beautiful papers & anyone who knows Mina also knows that she guards her papers very carefully, so it is doubly nice of her to include these. She will do the draw on January 27 & she will ship internationally, so don’t forget to leave a comment on her blog before then.

Ooh, lots of pink in this blog candy from Katy! She is celebrating 4000 hits on her blog. She will draw a winner on January 28 so leave a coment & post a link on your blog & you could be the lucky winner!

Caryn at Glitter Me Silly is offering TWO lots of blog candy! She is also celebrating 4000 hits. Caryn loves scrapbooking & cardmaking, so there is blog candy for each. You can enter for both, but if you only want one you need to specify which one on her blog. She will draw the winner (s) on February 7 & the usual ‘rules’ apply.

Love & light.

Tilda Challenges

Published January 19, 2009 by isisimaginings
I have discovered that it is very difficult to craft when you have a cold. I’m finding it very difficult to breathe, my eyes are streaming & my brain has been replaced with cotton wool. Anyhoo, one of my New Year’s resolutions was to make more challenge cards, but I can’t keep up with them. It takes me so long to come up with an idea, unlike everyone else who seem to be make a card in ten minutes. but, yesterday & today I actually managed to make three cards for Tilda Challenges that have been on docrafts.

This first one was ‘Animal-lover Tilda’ & I thought I would use the only animal stamp in memory of my cat. I tried very hard to get tabby markings on the cat, but the end result was TERRIBLE, so this morning I coloured over the body with a dark brown Whispers pen, it doesn’t look quite as bad. The papers & the flowers are Papermania.
Another recent challenge was ‘Victorian Tilda’. This one required a lot of research, ;). At some stage I had bought the sewing embellishments & as every little girl in Victorian times would have learnt to sew I thought that would be the subject of the card. I Googled Victorian sewing tables & saw this one. I also Googled Victorian children & found a picture of a girl wearing an outfit virtually identical to this Tilda. I kept the colours dark, because it’s meant to be daytime & children then didn’t wear colourful clothes during the day. The backing paper is from Laura Ashley’s Traditional paper pack by Dovecraft. The tag & the yellow flower are Papermania. Tilda is looking a little embarrassed because she has knocked her sewing things off the table! 🙂 Now, look at that metal flower, isn’t it lovely? Part of my Christmas present from my mum was a collection of beautiful metal embellishments – flowers, leaves, dragonflies & butterflies – each one individually HANDMADE by a friend of hers. I can only imagine how long it took to make each one. I am so thrilled with them, so look out for them on my future cards.

Unfortunately, I can’t show you the third card yet. It’s for the birthday of someone who reads my blog & I don’t want her to see it yet.

Right, I’m off to curl up on the couch with a mug of lemon & ginger tea & Dawn Bibby on QVC.

Love & light to all.

My First WOJ Card!

Published January 16, 2009 by isisimaginings
My friend Jen asked me to make a card for her daughter, Jessica, who is doing brilliantly in college & this is what I came up. Jessica loves pink & bling, so this card has plenty of both! I coloured the image with Whispers pens, using a waterbrush to blend the colours slightly. The backing paper is Papermania’s ‘Raspberry Champagne’, the flowers are Prima & Papermania & the ribbon is from Crafty Ribbons. Everything else is from my stash. This picture does not do the card justice, but the light here is still terrible; it’s virtually dark all day long & no matter how I tried, I couldn’t get a good photograph. I have to send this card to Jen now & hope that Jessica doesn’t look at my blog before she gets it! I think she’s too busy with college work & her job, so we should be ok! 🙂 I just hope she likes it.
Isn’t this a lovely award? It’s called ‘The Marie Antoinette A Real Person, A Real Award’ award. I got it from Barbara & it was very good of her to think of me, especially when she has much more important things to think about at the moment. I saw this award on other blogs & thought it was great, so I’m thrilled to now have it on mine. Thank you so much for this Barbara! I have to pass it on to 7 other bloggers. I’ve just remembered I haven’t passed on the award I got last week, so that’s 2 awards. I’ll make a list over the weekend – I want to make cards too, so I will be busy.
Until next time, thank you to everyone for their kind comments. Love & light.

First Cards of 2009!

Published January 13, 2009 by isisimaginings

For various reasons I haven’t had a chance to post until now & I’m behind with my blog following as well. I have lots of birthdays coming up in the next few months, so I really need to get organised.
I made these thank you cards last week, but I’ve only just uploaded them. As you can see, they’re very simple. I had to make six & I didn’t have a huge amount of time. I had the PP images already printed out & everything is from my stash – waste not, want not is the motto for 2009! The green, spotted paper on these two is DCWV.
I used watercolour pencils to colour the birds, but used them dry to keep the colour soft & subtle. The backing paper on these is Papermania.

The card on the left is made using pieces from a Dawn Bibby kit I got from QVC ages ago. The butterflies & the top piece of paper are from Crafty Individuals .

This card is for my friend Kelly, who celebrates a significant birthday tomorrow. I’ve hidden the number on the inside! 😉 So………..

Penny Black image, ‘Cinnamon’, stamped onto watercolour paper & coloured with Whispers pens. I then used lacquer pens to intensify the colours.

Matted onto turquoise lightweight cardstock, faux stitching border made with a finetip black pen.

The flourish was stamped onto the triangular piece of turquoise cardstock with Versamark, covered with Silver Pearl embossing powder, then heat embossed. The flourish stamp is Hero Arts & was a gift from Sarita.

The flowers are Prima & the jewelled brad is Papermania. The adhesive gems are from my stash.

This card & the ATC are for the daughter of a docrafter. The LO of the card is Loretta’s current challenge.

Again, I used Whispers pens & lacquer pens to colour Cinnamon. The floral backing paper is Papermania & the paper beneath that is from the Papermill. The flowers are Prima & the gems, brads, peel-offs, ribbon & butterfly are from my stash. The ATC is very simple. I used the same Papermill backing paper & the striped card is DCWV.

Some of you may remember that one of my New Year’s resolutions was to photograph my cards, instead of scanning them. Well, I tried, but the light is so bad at the moment that it’s a waste of time. I will keep trying tho’, especially as I noticed that at 4.30 this afternoon – IT WASN’T DARK!!! The days are getting longer, hooray!!

Ok, enough of my rambling. Love & light to all.
