Zigzag Zentangle

Published December 30, 2012 by isisimaginings

ETA: I apologise for the ads now appearing on my blog.  This is NOT my choice.  When I can afford it, I will pay to have them blocked.  In the meantime, please ignore them, but if you see something inappropriate, I urge you to report it immediately.  Thank you.

Hello blog visitors!  Tomorrow will be the final day of 2012, so it is fitting that I show you my final tag for the Chocolate Baroque Alpha Tag swap.  I am quite proud that I stuck with this swap & completed my twenty-six tags, some better than others, but none a complete disaster & I have a lovely collection of tags from my swap partners to treasure.

Most of the year, I wondered what on earth I would do for the final tag, ‘Z’.  Finally, I took a deep breath & chose ‘zentangle’.

CB Swap 12 Z a

I stamped the balloon ship from the Steampunkery set onto white card, cut off all the sails, coloured it with Promarkers & drew a border, freehand, around it on the tag to separate it from the patterns.  When the tag was finished I decided to add Glossy Accents to the balloon, it just gave a little bit of dimension to the tag.  I used the Spellbinders’ edgeabilities die to make the zigzags, trying to keep them as evenly spaced as possible.

CB Swap 12 Z b

Then I started doodling.  Well, there wasn’t a lot of doodling, as I thought about each segment for ages first, starting at the bottom & matching each pattern with another at the top.

CB Swap 12 Z c

I found the quote on a Zen Buddhism website.  It seemed appropriate for the end of the swap.

And here is the finished tag.  It turned out rather better than I thought it would.  Zentangles look wonderful, but creating them does not come naturally to me, I’m too impatient & my crafting style is definitely in the make-a-major-mess zone.  I also don’t have the kind of brain that can think up incredible patterns.  However, I enjoyed making this tag, so maybe I’ll do a little more tangling.

So, that’s it for the 2012 Chocolate Baroque swap.  Our intrepid leader, Margaret, has already organised a new swap for 2013.  It’s to be two QUINTILES a month & she has given us a topic for each month – hurrah!

Thanks for looking, I shall be back tomorrow, or the next day.  Until then,

Twelve Tags of 2012…. December

Published December 27, 2012 by isisimaginings

Hello blog visitors, it’s a cold, wet Thursday night & I’m typing this while wrapped in a blanket, watching the Royal Institute Christmas lecture on BBC2.

The end of December is rapidly approaching so I wanted to show you the two tags I made following Lord Tim’s instructions in his 12 Tags of 2012 series.  You can see Tim’s tags HERE.

TH 12 Tags 12 Dec

Here are mine & once again, not having most of the items Tim used, I improvised.  I loved using the metallic distress stains, there’s a lovely sheen to these tags in RL.

TH 12 Tags Dec 1

The little snowman is a Kanban stamp, as is the owl & the metal flower is from a set my mum gave me some years ago – I use them very sparingly.

TH 12 Tags Dec 2

I made my own journal ticket from kraft card & stamped the sentiment onto a scrap of  green core’dinations.  I do have a little of Tim’s printed tissue paper, but not the gorgeous poinsettia die, so I used a Crealies die instead.  The flourish is from a Marianne Creatables die.

I have thoroughly enjoyed making these tags throughout the year & I hope Tim’s hectic schedule allows him to continue in 2013.

Thanks for looking.  I hope that, after the Christmas busyness, you are having a relaxing few days.  Until next time,

Love & light.

Christmas with Dylusions

Published December 26, 2012 by isisimaginings

Hello blog visitors, we made it to the day after.  I hope you had a wonderful Christmas Day & if you got gifts of new crafty stash, congratulations!  Very enexpectedly, I got the gift of  some money, which I will use to treat myself to something new.  I rather like this new stamp set from Chocolate Baroque……

I still have a few Christmas projects to show you, so I thought today would be the turn of the cards I made with Dyan Reaveley’s Dylusions sprays, stamps & stencils.  I only made THREE Dylusions cards, which is disgraceful & must be rectified for next Christmas.

DSCF5375

Other than the sentiments, ( a very generous gift from Denise Phillips of Birdnuts Mixed Media), I don’t have any of Dyan’s Christmas stamps – something else I really must rectify before next Christmas –  so I’ve put the heads on to assorted stamped bodies.  This first one has a body from a Kanban stamp.

DSCF5376

Here’s the Polkadoodle tree stamp that I showed you in a previous post.  I coloured it with Promarkers & added glitter.  You can see the Dylusions star stencil in the background, I edged some of the stars in black & some in glitter.

Looking at this image now, I’ve suddenly had an idea for doing something different with the tree.  Isn’t it strange how that happens sometimes?  (Pity it doesn’t happen for me more often).  I must make a note before I forget it.

IMAG0203

I have to admit to having a soft spot for this card.  I think I’ll use this idea in another project & keep it for myself.  The body of the ‘reindeer’ is a Hot Off The Press stamp, which was free in a magazine some time ago & I can’t now remember which magazine.  I faffed around for ages trying to think of how to make antlers, before remembering the Tim Holtz Pinecone Alterations die – the leaves were ideal.  The tiny snowflakes are from a Crealies die, I put drops of ice white Liquid Pearls here & there & some doodling with a black Pitt pen to frame the image.   I attached the bell to the glasses with jump rings.

That’s all for today.  Thank you to everyone who has left comments this past week, I appreciate it very much.  I’m going to try & write another post tomorrow to show my December tags for Lord Tim’s 12 Tags of 2012.  Until then, have a wonderful day.

Yuletide Blessings

CB Swap 12 Y a

It’s Christmas Eve, blog visitors!  If you haven’t got everything done by now, it’s too late.  So relax, open a bottle of wine, or make a cuppa & just B R E A T H E………

I’ve got a tag to show you tonight.  It’s my ‘Y’ tag for the Chocolate Baroque Alpha Tag Swap.  As with my ‘X’ tag, I faffed around for ages, not knowing what to do.  Then I remembered the Yule log that was the first decoration my mum put out every Christmas.

CB Swap 12 Y c

I cut two size 8 tags from core’dinatons card, stamped one with a Chocolate Baroque snowflake stamp & dry embossed the other with a wood grain embossing folder.  I swiped Gathered Twigs distress ink over the raised areas of the green tag & trimmed it slightly.

I stamped the holly leaves from CB’s retired Winter Wonderland stamp set with Versamark onto a dark green core’dinations scrap & embossed with gold EP.

The glassine cones & leaves were cut from the Tim Holtz die & coloured with Gathered Twigs, Rusty Hinge & Aged Mahogany DIs.

CB Swap 12 Y d

I edged the cones with Picket Fence Distress Stickles.

CB Swap 12 Y b

The candle was from a grab bag of CB stamps, I embossed it with gold EP, cut it out & coloured it with Promarkers.

I’m quite happy with this tag, but I wish I’d remembered to spritz it with PP Heirloom Gold mist before I sent it off.

Thanks for visiting my blog.  I’m taking tomorrow off, so I would like to wish you a VERY happy Christmas.  Until next time,

Fling Glitter At It

Published December 23, 2012 by isisimaginings

Evening all, I hope your Sunday has been fabulous, despite the horrible weather that seems to be never-ending.

I’d like to show you a commissioned card today.  The brief was a card for a girl, who likes purple, pink, green & lots of sparkle.

DSCF5172

The first thing I did was create a background using Dylusions spray inks – if you want vibrant colour, you cannot go wrong with these.  I’ve discovered that what works for me is spraying the inks on to my craft sheet, spritzing them with water & then putting the cardstock on top.  I pat off the excess with paper towel & dry with my heat tool & I do that until I’ve used all the ink.  I find I can build up plenty of layers that way.

DSCF5169

I spritzed water through the Dylusions snowflake stencil for a ‘bleached’ effect, which then was mostly covered when I flicked more water on top & very quickly sprinkled Stampendous Fran’tage EP over that.  I LOVE that EP sticks to the wet paper, you get a very imprecise finish.

I found a little flourish stamp in my Christmas stash & added that.

DSCF5173

The dress is a Kanban stamp.  I stamped it first on the off cut from the background, then again onto white card, cutting it out & colouring with Promarkers.  I curved the skirt around a pot of EP & attached it with silicon glue, so that you can partially see the dress underneath.

I used a glue pen & Glamour Dust on the skirt & a glitter pen to highlight other areas.  I wish the photos could show you the sparkle on this card, it’s completely OTT.  I just hope the recipient likes it.

Thanks so much for visiting my blog, I appreciate it very much.  Until tomorrow, (Christmas Eve – gulp!!!), take care &

Chocolate Baroque Christmas Cards

Published December 22, 2012 by isisimaginings

Hello lovely blog visitors, three posts in a row, can you believe it?  Trust me, there’s a lot more to come.

I continued with kraft card & white EP, this time using Chocolate Baroque’s Fat Robin & the retired Winter Wonderland sets.

DSCF5407

I like the simplicity of these cards, adding the gold stars & the adhesive pearls gives some dimension without adding lots of layers – that’s important, given the cost of postage these days.

DSCF5401

These two were made with the Fat Robin trees & the free snowflake stamp, which is also designed by Chocolate Baroque, from the December issue of Craft Stamper magazine.

DSCF5404_thumb1

This is the card I made for the CB Christmas card swap.  Again, it’s very simple; stamping with Versamark, covering with gold EP & heat setting. Then I spritzed it with Perfect Pearls’ Heirloom Gold.

I covered the metal charm with PaperArtsy’s FF Chocolate Pudding paint & Spanish Topaz Treasure Gold.

CB Xmas Card Swap 12

Finally, a card combining Chocolate Baroque stamps with Dylusions London Blue & Vibrant Turquoise sprays & the Snowflake stencil.  I masked off the trees & embossed with gold EP & used a white pen & adhesive pearls to highlight the stencilled snowflakes, (Salty Ocean distress ink through the stencil).  The snowflakes on the trees are party confetti & they’re slightly holographic.

DSCF5405

That’s all for today.  I’m going to spend the rest on the evening on the sofa, watching the final of Strictly – Dani or Kimberley to win! – and quite probably, eating chocolate.  By the way, I must apologise for the terrible photos, the light has been hopeless for weeks.

Have a great evening.  Until next time,

Kraft Christmas

Published December 21, 2012 by isisimaginings

DSCF5247

Happy Friday, blog visitors, hope you had a great week.  It looks like we’re all still here, which is nice.

DSCF5245

After making the mostly white cards, I decided to make some with kraft card & white embossing powder & I like how they turned out.

DSCF5248

I used an assortment of stamps from my Christmas stash.  The trio of trees are from Polkadoodles, it’s one stamp & I masked off the centre one before stamping the others.

Most of the others were freebies from a magazine called Creative Stamping.  It’s not a magazine I was aware of, until a friend gave me the current issue & while I wouldn’t buy it regularly, the stamps were quite nice.

DSCF5250

That’s it for today, thanks for visiting, have a great weekend.  Until next time,

Love & light
