PaperArtsy Christmas Crackers Day One

Happy New Year! We are officially in 2014 & here’s hoping it will be a wonderful year for all of us.

On the PA blog this week, Leandra has been showing us videos of various excellent techniques using Fresco paints & Grunge Paste & if you’re inspired to make something & link it to the relevant posts there are goodies to be won.

This is my take on the first video, Sanded Foundations. I used a 21x21cm piece of chipboard as my substrate & gave it a layer of gesso first, followed by Cheesecake, Pumpkin Soup & Snowflake frescos, applied with a baby wipe.

Then the faffing began. I finally decided on this Crafters’ Workshop stencil, because I had an image of an apple orchard. I mixed the GP with Mocha Mousse, Paprika & London Bus – separately. When it had dried & I’d sanded it back I didn’t like it at all, so I dry brushed Chocolate Pudding & Paprika over the top. I also dry brushed Paprika & Lake Wanaka on the background.

The grass was stamped with Wendy Vecchi’s Fern Green Archival. The quote is a JoFY stamp.

I finished by adding Ruby Treasure Gold.

There’s every possibility that I will take this part/gesso over it & start again. I need to work out what’s not right about it.

Anyway, thanks for looking, suggestions appreciated. See you next time.

  • looks good to me, your trees and birds look great. The only thing I could suggest is that you lengthen some of the tree branches so they don’t all finish in a line, if you get me.

  • I love the birds with your quote. I think I agree with the suggestion about the trees – at present the design looks like 3 horizontal strips – mind you I’m way out of my depth here so not really sure I’m qualified to say anything at all.
