Happy Sunday to one & all, yet again I’ve left my entry into the PA challenge almost to the last minute. There’s been so much fantastic inspiration on the PA blog for this challenge, but when I saw Clare Lloyd’s wonderful ledger book portrait last night, I knew that was the one I wanted to attempt. I also knew it would take me ages to finish, so I decided I would copy Clare’s page, even down to using similar colours, because that would give me more time to work on the face.
The background is Bora Bora & Turquoise Fresco paints over black gesso. I painted a rough face shape with Honeydew Fresco, added a few details & some colour – Orchid for the hair, Turquoise for the eyes – to get me started. (Already, my ‘inner critic’ was screaming so loud I’m surprised the neighbours weren’t complaining)………
After this I got so engrossed I forgot to take photos, but trust me, I spent HOURS on this face. Thank goodness for opaque Frescos, I kept painting over & redoing the facial features because I couldn’t get them right, but each time the Honeydew paint covered up perfectly what was underneath.
I used Sky & Limelight Frescos for the shading with baby wipes & a water brush.
As with the first face I did, everything is wrong with this one, but if you just glance at it quickly, it doesn’t look too bad. (At least, that’s what I keep telling myself)
Thank you so much to Clare for the inspiration & I would like to enter this page into the PaperArtsy challenge HERE.
