Dragons Dream TIO #151

Published October 14, 2013 by isisimaginings

Hello, I hope everyone’s had a great Monday. I’m typing this with VERY cold fingers….

I missed the previous Dragons Dream challenge because I could not come up with a single idea, so I was determined not to miss this one, especially as it was Trace’s last time for a while to choose the theme.

Her theme was:

A word of your choice, brown, die cuts & lots of layers. All on a tag, with at least one stamp.

Here’s my tag:

Dragons Dream Oct 12 13

I used a piece of cardboard from a Tando Creative piece. Layers as follows:

Paint with Chocolate Pudding Fresco.

Glue on torn pieces of book text.

Cover with a piece of tissue paper, scrunching it up to create texture.

When dry, apply grunge paste through a stencil & allow to dry.

001

Then I started applying paint; Brown Shed, Smoked Paprika, Chocolate Pudding, French Roast, tiny amounts of Mocha Mousse & Pumpkin Soup. Then a few washes of Chocolate Pudding, stamping with PaperArtsy’s mini splatters stamp & black Archival ink & to finish, Spanish Topaz treasure gold.

002

I cut the window from a scrap of grunge paste, dry embossed it, painted it with frescos & added a little Spanish Topaz. The branches are also grunge paper, die cut from the TH Tree Branch die, coloured with distress inks & the little birds are a Memory Box die.

009

I painted Dylusions’ Pondering Petunia with frescos (her head is from the Curious Corrin stamp set) adding Glossy Accents to her eyes & boots & Antique Linen distress stickles to her wings & die cut the PA bird from metal card, painting it with frescos too.

I had a different quote in mind initially, but then thought of this one as I was working. The letters are Hampton Art stamps, I used Potting Soil Archival & glued the words onto a die cut label that I stamped with a crackle stamp with Frayed Burlap DI & heat set with clear embossing powder.

Dragons Dream Oct 12 13

That’s it, the cardboard is not the strongest, so I think this tag will end up on a page in my art journal.

Once again I must say thank you so very much to everyone for visiting & for the very kind comments. It means a great deal to me.

See you next time.

Rhapsody in Blue for Dragons Dream

Published September 16, 2013 by isisimaginings

Evening, I hope everyone’s well.  I’ve been in a major slump this past week, more projects have ended up in the bin than have ben finished.  I’ve had this idea for the current Dragons Dream TIO challenge in my head for over a week & I was determined to complete it, even though I messed it up too.

*Edited to add:  The link to the Dragons Dream website doesn’t seem to be working, here’s the direct link;  http://dragon-dragonsdream.blogspot.co.uk/2013/09/tio-149-music-tissue-papertape-etc-blue.html

The gorgeous Gabrielle chose the theme this week  & it is ‘Music, Tissue paper/tape & Blue’, with at least one stamp & on a tag..  George Gershwin’s ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ is one of most favourite pieces of music, so I knew immediately that I would have to include it somehow.

I printed part of the sheet music onto tissue paper & glued it to the tag, not realising until after that I’d forgotten to crumple it as I laid it down.  In all honesty, I couldn’t be bothered redoing it, so I left it.  I painted silver acrylic paint & Ice Blue fresco on top.

Dragons Dream Sept 16

I mixed grunge paste with Inky Pool fresco paint & applied it though the CWS cityscape stencil.  Than I added the die cuts & tissue tape.  I turned the TH Umbrella Man in to a musical conductor with Kanban stamps & silver heat embossing & used TH chit chat stickers for the quote.

And that’s it.  Not my finest hour, but at least I finished it. Thanks for visiting, it means a lot.  Until next time,

Love & light.

Hello blog visitors, I hope everyone has had a great weekend.  This evening I’d like to show you my tag for the current Dragon’s Dream Tag It On challenge.  The theme was chosen by May & her recipe is Nature, Time & Orange.  All on a tag, with at least one stamp.

Here’s my tag, with lots of stamping.

022

I started the background by pouncing layers of Pumpkin Soup & Brown Shed Fresco paints on the tag with a baby wipe, drying with a heat tool in between the layers.

013

Then I blended Ripe Persimmon distress ink over a Crafters Workshop tree branch stencil & added stamping with the JoFY leaves & Rusty Hinge DI.

014

More stamping was added with black archival ink, using Tim Holtz stamps, an Artemio bee stamp & JoFY leaves & circles – I filled in some of the circles with a black PITT pen & added some white highlights.

015

The JoFY bird, birdhouse & branch were painted with frescos – Pumpkin Soup, Brown Shed, Inky Pool, Ice Blue & Beach Hut – and the leaves coloured with watercolour pens.  I used Tim Holtz chit chat stickers for the quote.

Thanks for looking, until next time,

Love & light.

Hello!  A huge thank you to everyone for the lovely comments on my PaperArtsy posts over the weekend, you’re all very, very kind.

This is a quick post to enter my tag in the current Dragons Dream Tag It On challenge.  Silvia chose the recipe, which is waste/rubbish, male, chipboard, with at least one stamp & of course, on a tag.

Dragons Dream Aug 16 2013

Umbrella Man went out for a walk in the country & of course, it started to rain.  But was he daunted??  Of course not!!

My tag is from the packaging of a Tando printer’s tray, it wasn’t very strong so I backed it with a scrap of kraft card.  Everything else is scraps of chipboard, black & white card, ribbons & bakers twine.  The background is just distress inks & Brushed Pewter distress stain.

I dry embossed Umbrella Man & added Perfect Pearls.  The Tim Holtz car was painted with distress inks & I used silver liquid pearls for the raindrops.

*And I’ve just visited the Dragons Dream blog to add my link & discovered that my last project was chosen as one of the Dreamboat top 3!  Thank you so much Dragons Dream!

Until next time,

Love & light.

Dragons Dream TIO In Neon

Published July 30, 2013 by isisimaginings

Hello, thank you all for the kind comments on my TH tag last night.  I’m back with another tag tonight, this time for the Dragons Dream Tag It On challenge.  I’ve missed doing this challenge the last few weeks & I really didn’t want to miss this one.  The fabulous Helen chose the theme this week; stencil/mask, paint, ribbon & a real stamp.

( I was thrilled a few weeks ago when my  La Belle Epoque tag was chosen to be one of the Dragons Dreamboat 3 winners.  A big thank you to all the Dragons Dream team)

Here is my tag.

Dragons Dream 29 July 13

It started out as a tag that I’d covered with scrunched up tissue paper & then forgot about, so I mixed some Grunge Paste with Puff Paint & applied it to the tag through a swiss dots stencil.  After I dried it with the heat tool – loved watching the puffiness happen – I painted two layers of Snowflake fresco paint on top.

2013-07-27 001 2013-07-27 007

My friend Sarita in California sent me these gorgeous neon inks from Hero Arts a few months ago & I LOVE them.

2013-04-23 001 2013-04-23 006

I applied them through a splatter stencil & I love the how they look.  I’ve been using them to make assorted cards & when I show them to you, you’ll see how different the colours look on card stock compared to paint.

2013-07-27 001 2013-07-27 008

I painted Bora Bora fresco paint onto a piece of scrap cardstock, applied a thin layer of Crackle Glaze & when that was dry, painted a thicker layer of Snowflake on top of the glaze.  When it had crackled & was dry I cut the frame using Spellbinders label dies.

2013-07-28 001 2013-07-28 003

Thanks to Jen feeding my washi tape addiction, I had tapes which complimented the neon colours perfectly.

Dragons Dream 29 July 13

I really like this tag.  I’m having a love affair with white & bright colours at the moment & with clean & simple designs.  I’ll post again tomorrow or Thursday & show you the neon cards.

Until then,

Love & light.

Dragons Dream TIO Challenge

Published June 23, 2013 by isisimaginings

Two blog posts in one day???!!!  Don’t get too excited, judging by my track record, the next post could be in two months!

After the self-induced stress of my tag book for the PaperArtsy challenge, (see previous post), I wanted to have a play & make something fairly quick & simple.  I was having a rummage through my stash of embellishments & when I saw this metal Eiffel Tower magnet, the words ‘La Belle Époque’ came into my mind.  Then I remembered the theme my wonderful friend & fellow #PATWIT, Helen, had chosen for this week’s Dragon’s Dream Tag It On challenge;

  • Predominantly red
  • Book pages/text
  • An embellishment
  • At least one real stamp

On a tag of course.

Here’s what I came up with.

2013-06-18 001 2013-06-18 016

I covered a manila tag with a page from an old dictionary & covered it with splats of Barn Door distress stain & layers of the various shades of red distress inks, flicking water over it from time to time.  I used Aged Mahogany distress ink through the CWS mini harlequin stencil.

I added a little bit of stamping with Coffee Archival ink on mini PaperArtsy stamps – a script & splatters & some around the border with black Archival.  All the other stamps are from a set called French Mail by Crafty Secrets.

2013-06-18 001 2013-06-18 009

I stamped in Versamark the free border stamp from the July issue of Craft Stamper magazine around the edge of the tag & heat set with clear embossing powder.  When it was cool, I rubbed over the top with Ruby treasure gold.  I can’t remember where I’ve seen it done before, but it’s a great way of adding texture.

I stamped the Lynne Perella image onto acetate & painted it on the reverse with assorted Fresco paints & made a little postcard from a scrap of white card, that I covered with Antique Linen & Old Paper DIs.

2013-06-18 001 2013-06-18 010

I glued another page of the dictionary to scrap card & cut the smallest flowers from the TH tattered floral die & the border from Spellbinders Edgeabilities dies & added some red & white baker’s twine & black adhesive pearls to finish.

2013-06-18 001 2013-06-18 016

Thanks to Helen for getting me to use a LOT of red, I quite liked it!

Before I end, I thought I’d share a link with you.  After the PaperArtsy blog post this morning, I had a Twitter chat with Lin & Jax about why we get stressed over our projects, especially when they’re supposed to be fun.  We talked about not being able to come up with ideas & when we do, the finished piece never looks as it did in our heads.

Lin gave us this link to a post on France Papillon’s blog & it really made me think.  I KNOW that the pieces/cards/whatever that I’m making now are better than what I was making years ago.  I still have many of the actual items, so the physical evidence is there.  Therefore, if I continue to create & experiment, what I make in the future should be better than what I‘m making now.   Ergo, I should stop being so hard on myself & start having fun.  In other words; LIGHTEN UP KIRSTEN!!!  Here’s the link……………

http://www.france-papillon.com/2013/06/im-trying-to-close-gap-are-you.html

I’d love to know what you think of it.

Until next time, (hopefully not in two months),

Love & light.
